Calcite: water, sunlight and care
Calcite tolerates only a brief rinse; running-water cleansing is not suggested. Sunlight is not suggested for any stone in Heptyx.
Calcite at a glance
| What it is | CaCO₃ |
|---|---|
| Hardness (Mohs) | 3 of 10 |
| Water | A brief rinse only; dissolves in acid. |
| Sunlight | No fading record in the sources. |
| Good to know | Coloured calcite may be dyed. |
How to care for Calcite
- Moonlight: In tradition, stones are left in moonlight overnight, especially around the full moon.
- Sound: In tradition, a bell or a singing bowl is rung near the stone.
- Calcite tolerates only a brief rinse; running-water cleansing is not suggested.
- Sunlight cleansing is not suggested for any stone: many fade, and a missing record does not mean a stone is sun-safe.
- Salt is not suggested: it can harm porous and soft stones.
Calcite in tradition
In crystal tradition, Calcite is associated with the sacral (orange calcite) chakra. This is a tradition, not a physical property, and Heptyx makes no health claims for any stone.
